Laser pipe profiling in Lakeland, FL

A laser adapter mounts on the CCTV tractor and measures the shape of the pipe rather than only viewing it. It runs on the camera truck and is quoted as its own service.

Why it gets ordered

A camera tells you what it looks like, not what shape it is

A standard CCTV run is a visual record. It shows cracks, roots, offsets and debris, and a coded report ties each one to its footage. What it does not give you is the cross section, and on flexible pipe the cross section is the thing under question.

Deflection does not always look like much on camera. A run can read as sound and still be out of round enough to matter on an acceptance test, which is why profiling is ordered as a measurement rather than as a second opinion on the video.

Straight answer

This is not part of a standard CCTV run

Laser pipe profiling is a separate service. The adapter goes on the tractor for this work specifically, so it is quoted separately.

If you want profiling, say so when you ask for the inspection. Adding it to a run that is already scheduled is straightforward.

The InSight Standard

How laser pipe profiling runs alongside the inspection

Same sequence as any camera run. The line has to be clean before either the camera or the laser can read it.

Open the line first

A laser cannot read through standing debris any better than a camera can. Cleaning comes first, the same as every inspection we run.

The adapter mounts on the tractor and the unit drives the segment, capturing the pipe profile as it goes.

Measurement with the video

Profiling is ordered alongside a camera run, so the dimensional record is delivered with the coded inspection rather than on its own.

What that looks like on the day

  1. Scope before we roll. Size, footage, access and whether the line needs cleaning first. This is what stops a half day becoming two.
  2. Site walkthrough. Crew looks over access, traffic and overhead hazards, then holds a tailgate meeting before anything opens.
  3. Set up. Cones and signage placed, structures opened, equipment positioned.
  4. Clean if needed. A camera cannot read through debris, so anything in the way comes out first.
  5. Run the inspection. Observations recorded and coded live. You or your inspector are welcome to watch.
  6. Code and compile. Findings coded to the NASSCO standard, tied to footage markers, assembled with the video.
  7. Walk you through it. We go through what was found and what it means, rather than emailing a file and leaving.

Real captures

What profiling is ordered to settle

Real captures from inspection work. Profiling answers the question a picture leaves open.

A defect at 113.7 ft. The camera locates it. Profiling is what measures the shape around it.

Roots at a joint. An intrusion is visible. How much bore is left is a measurement.

Why cleaning comes first. Neither a camera nor a laser reads through what is sitting in the line.

Before you ask for a price

What we need to quote laser pipe profiling accurately

Most requests arrive with a location and nothing else. That is fine, we will come back and ask. But if you have these, you get a real number instead of a range.

Send what you have
  • Job site location and access
  • Pipe size and material
  • Linear footage of the run
  • Whether a CCTV run is being ordered at the same time
  • Whether the line needs cleaning first
  • What the measurement is for, acceptance or condition

Do not have all of it? Send what you do have. Missing items are usually one phone call, not a site visit.

The arithmetic

What waiting costs you

The profiling itself is the small part. The expensive version is finding out you needed it after the inspection is done and the line is no longer accessible.

On new construction that timing matters more, since the question usually arrives with an acceptance review rather than before it.

When profiling is the right call

Questions we get

Laser pipe profiling, answered

Is profiling included in a CCTV inspection?

No. It is a separate service. The laser adapter goes on the tractor specifically for this work, so it is quoted on its own.

What size pipe can you profile?

The same range the camera truck covers, 6 inches to 72 inches. Laterals are a push camera job and are handled as lateral line inspection.

Does the line need cleaning first?

Yes. The rule does not change for the laser. Anything sitting in the line blocks the measurement the same way it blocks the picture.

What do I get at the end?

A dimensional record of the pipe profile, delivered alongside the coded CCTV report and video from the same run.
